Largoward is a peaceful and friendly village. A good mixture of ages and backgrounds. The village would greatly benefit from having a Spar type shop. We have to drive several miles to do any shopping. Also the village used to have a thriving hotel/bar which closed down a few years ago. The building is now used as a private dwelling and is beginning to look very run down. Many villagers wish that the building could be bought by someone who would reopen it as a hotel/bar. We have no focal point in the village at present which could be the village hub. The right owners could turn the place into a goldmine with the proximity of St Andrews, the East Neuk villages and beautiful coastline with all the any tourists they attract.
In many ways the village tends to be ignored by our elected politicians with them only being seen when they want our votes. Mid Street and the Kings Highway are both un-adopted and not in a god state of repair. This despite the fact we pay the same council tax as other nearby villages that seem to get first class attention.
The village playing field has been ruined by the council's decision to allow half of it to remain uncut. The field is surrounded by land where wild plants grow in profusion.
There used to be a chute in the children's playground that was well used until the top platform was damaged. Instead of replacing the two damaged planks, the council decided to remove the whole chute instead.
The children have little enough in the village as it is. All this at a time that the village has grown significantly by the building of a substantial amount of new houses.
The lack of provision for youngsters is causing them to "hang out" together which sometimes results in anti-social behaviour and low-level vandalism.
We complain to the council but nothing is ever done.
