Why has this road suddenly become a road where busses can go up and yet cars are now being penalised?
I have used this road for years, now and again, because it is a wide road and a way through to Fulham rather than sit in traffic in the Wandsworth Bridge road.
I happen to be using my car at the moment as I am 66, and not using public transport because of Covid, and using Wandsworth bridge because of 3 bridges across the Thames that are out of action, to go North. I hasten to add that my journeys are few.
The signage to show that cars are not allowed up this road now is extremely poor, and I never expected to be fined for doing this. I am very upset that the change to this road has caused me to be penalised without a better warning, and I will be fined again as I used it last night, as well, without any prior knowledge. I am going to appeal.
I live off Lots Road and had heard that some of the residential streets in the Sands End area now had restrictions. However, I came over Wandsworth Bridge and turned right to go to Sainsburys on my way home and then continued on my way down Imperial Road up to the Kings Road. I NEVER SAW A SINGLE SIGN saying cars were not allowed. Also Imperial Road is hardly what one would call a 'charming residential street'. It is madness that I should have gone back to the Wandsworth Bridge Road (which was solid traffic) and all the way round in sold traffic when I was just trying to get home via what had always been the easiest and shortest route.
I am going to contest the notice on lack of clear signage but I am also going to stop using Sainsburys as many others probably now are too as I don;t have the time to sit in the traffic all the way round.
I have fallen victim to the insidious, brutal and disgraceful behavior of Hammersmith and Fulham. I too drove along Imperial Road to go to Sainsbury last Monday. I did not see any signage that showed the prohibition of certain types of vehicles.
Today I received a penalty notice. Sadly, I also went yesterday 24th March to Sainsbury's, so now I will get another penalty.
If h&f want to prohibit cars on this road, there should be proper signage and erected in one or two sections of the length of the road. This is tantamount to stealing. I will write to h&f to complain and hope they see common sense.
Perhaps in their reply, they could send me a photo grab of their signage.
I also am victim of this decision by Hammersmith and Fulham council.. which to me it does not make any sense. As this would only divert the traffic on to the very busy Wandsworth bridge road. I walked the street yesterday to see what they are talking about, as you turn left from sands end the only sign is a blue one showing the restriction hours of 5he bus lane, half way up there is another blue sign and a few meters after it almost hidden by the blue sign is a sign warning the drivers of the restrictions. Which by then it is too late and there is no way to avoid but to continue. The only way I could explain this is another scheme to make some quick short term profit from the unsuspected motorist. As they seem first ones to get hit no matter what. Including the extended congestion charge at a time when we are asked not to use public transport when ever possible, in the interest of safety. It is just a bit back to front.
