This Carrington Drive is almost certainly named to commemorate Robert Smith, First Baron Carrington (1752-1838) whose seat was Wycombe Abbey, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He was instrumental in in financing fen drainage works in Deeping Fen,circa 1790 and received a large acreage of land after the Deeping Fen enclosure Act, circa. 1801. He divided his land into smallholdings which were rented out to the locals, thus encouraging the local economy. On the dark side he was a slave owner, owning 268 slaves in Jamaica.
His descendant, Peter, the Sixth Baron Carrington (1919-2018) was an MP and Foreign Secretary in Margaret Thatcher's government in the 1980s.
