The designation of Armitage Road as a B road is an anachronism. In 1922-23 when the scheme of road classification and numbering was first first drawn up there were less than 400,000 cars in Great Britain and 1 and 2 ton models were the mainstay of truck production. The DoT recommended width of road for a bus route is 6 metres; and for a standard residential street, 5.5 metres. The centre of the village has 280m of carriageway width is between 3.47 and 4.58 metres. Its declassification which is in the prerogative of the local authority is urgently needed to take the route off the sat nav system. This would avoid the blockages that regularly occur due to articulated lorries getting stuck and having to reverse out of the tortuous road in the village.
